Gout SUCKS!

It started last week in my big toe and is still going strong. I haven't had time to get into a Dr due to the workload I have right now overseeing 2 plants and going out to take care of a family member with demintia.

Any suggestions from the group? I'm drinking a gallon+ of water a day, not eating the stuff that usually causes flare ups, and I'm taking my tart cherry supplements each day...

Walking makes me cry, and that isn't a pretty sight! LOL

Doc can prescribe something that makes a huge difference within hours. I can ask BH to look up what they have on hand. There's also a vitamin that works as preventive but doesn't help during attack. Can your doc phone in a prescription so you can get the med fast, or do you have to see them?

In Germany you can buy Ibuprofen or Diclofenac in low- dose at pharmacy without prescription. Maby you also have this possibility? Get well soon! 🤕

and, What are the side effects of diclofenac? Common diclofenac side effects may include: indigestion, gas, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting; diarrhea, constipation; headache, dizziness, drowsiness; stuffy nose; itching, increased sweating; increased blood pressure; or. swelling or pain in your arms or legs. sign me up, sounds like fun :)

I have a flare up a couple of times per year. The Dr usually gives me colchacine or colcrys, and like T8U9 said, it starts working within hours. I tried to get them to call in a prescription, but it's been a year since I was in, so a visit is required. As for too much meat, not really, it's caused by purines that are found in certain foods (green veggies too), the purine levels then turn into uric acid and the acids gather in a joint and turn into crystals. VERY painful.

Hope that appointment is very soon. @Billtech it's certain meats. No more liver pâté for the Buzzard! ;-) And not too much asparagus, cauliflower, green peas, spinach, mushrooms, the list goes on. Diclofenac has its uses, with prudence. @Luise THANK YOU for reminder. I've got bad neck pain and will dig out a tube of Voltaren from back of first aid box. It's prescription-only where I think CB lives, and costs about $85/tube vs 11€ in Europe. Another adverse affect is highly increased photosensitivity, so I'll pile on the sunblock.

I LOVE liver and onions and all thing offal from most animals. When gout first reared its ugly head I stopped eating most of those. Until now, all subsequent flare ups have been fairly mild, this one is UGLY! From what I've read, this is another way my body is adjusting to the LCHF that I'm doing. My Dr warned me that it could happen. Appt is tomorrow, until then, I'll just hobble along and whimper now and then LOL

That's interesting! And would explain why BH got flare-ups shortly after starting LC. I cook quite a bit of offal, especially in lamb season, feel a bit guilty eating it alone. OMG, have you had Edirne-style liver??! TDF. --- Do you have Crocs? Ugly but a lot so much more comfortable than regular shoes (or do you have to wear composite toe footwear on plant floor?). The black non-skid ones without holes are somewhat more subtle.

Safety toe shoes are required, but I have a few good employees that have been covering the floor for me so I can stay in my office in unlaced sneakers. Edirne liver? Do tell...
