So, today when I went into work, I stopped for my usual cup of coffee in the "kitchen" at work. While my cup was brewing, my "weight loss buddy" came over and asked if I would help him out.
It seems that over the weekend he "tracked" what he usually does daily and realized thT his normal calorie and carb intake was way more than he needed to do in order to lose weight.
I told him that I would help as much as I can, but it's up to him to make the new WOE happen.
We agreed that he would have lunch with me each day and follow my lead when ordering, and he would also back off of the beer and try and do water instead. We go out to lunch daily so we can get a break from our employees. The restaurants that we go to each have a server that understands what I want each day. Grilled Chicken breast with no sauce, and 2 grilled veggie skewers. 360 calories when it's all said and done. Not a lot of fat, but I take care of that at dinner with my bride. He plans to emulate my dinner meals to assist with that as well.
He was really humble about this and I truly believe that he wants to lose weight, and he's realized what weight loss buddies are for. We have to keep each other in line, and at times, say things that we normally wouldn't say to a friend....
I'm grinning right now because he and I are close, and I want to see him succeed! It's gonna be tougher for him than me, he's a single guy and doesn't have the home support that I do, but I reminded him that the phone calls/text can help!
Not sure that keto is for him, but we agreed that he'll see my doctor soon and determine which plan is best for him!
I'm stoked for him! He realized that not all weight loss lifestyles are like mine, there are other options!

What a wonderful thing for you to do. Being willing to be a mentor and a sponsor per say is not a responsibility to be taken lightly. I think he chose wisely. You started off right I think by setting out the basics. i.e. Follow your lead and learn from you at meals and have your conversations. Good job Cranky.

Awesome, he is blessed to have a friends & weight loss buddy like you. Keeping each other on track . Always good to have that one strong person to help get someone
else going. Well done. I am sure once he commits he will move forward boldly.

Kudos for your friend who is coming to grips with reality and for having the courage to come to you! So nice that you have a heart for others, which makes you "approachable" to a coworker who needs help. Obviously you are setting a good example and are being a good friend to him.

Thanks all! It really made my day after the confrontation we had last week. This morning was basically a repeat of yesterday. Off to a good start!

This is awesome! It is hard sometimes to admit it when we know we are wrong. Stubbornness, pride and ego can run deep! It's good that you are showing grace and poise and continuing to help your buddy. A true friend can say those things that generally go unsaid, because they understand when they need said. People won't change until they are uncomfortable enough to do so, and it sounds like he's reached that point. Good for the both of you to push through. You've both got this!

Great news! You can always text him with pictures of your meals, if it helps him figure out what to eat. I found having someone check in an give encouragement was very helpful - now he is on the right track, all you have to do is help him navigate a bit.

That's cool that you have a chance to help someone else out! I agree, it is up to him, but it's very generous of you to share your time in teaching someone a good Keto plan.
