This morning while walking to no where on the treadmill, I began pondering a few things and thought I'd ask them of the good folks here...

Most everyone in the gym was wearing ear buds or headsets of some form. The question came to me; what's everyone listening to? Does the music help set the pace, or are they wearing the buds/phones to keep others from talking to them?

This morning, my mix was mostly symphonic metal, and music gets me fired up!

What's your music of choice, and does it help with motivation?

I love music and it really does motivate me. Actually it distracts me so when I least feel it I’ve already ran that mile on the treadmill.

I love to play upbeat music when I'm exercising because it help me feel pumped up. Often I'll get up at my desk while at work and dance to music (classic rock). I'm pretty much alone so no one has to watch me make a fool of myself. But hey, I'm up and moving so I call it a win. If it helps, than it's worth it.

l guess it's a good distraction to watch your doing. For me l have a good imagination to get me through the iron w/o's it's called concentration for the moment in hand but l have to say that might not be so bad when doing Stairmaster for an hr. haha

Variety is the spice of life, I listen to everything, from classical, to Jazz, Blues, early Rock, about the only thing I will NOT listen to is Rap Crap! It does make the time go bye, have not done so yet, but have considered getting books on the electronic device!

I swim now, because all my joints are bone on bone, but when I could run, and walk, I would go to my local parks, here in Virginia Beach, we have many great places to walk, run, and , or Bike, the trails at First Landing State park are awesome! Hoping I can get my hips, and knees fixed, so that I can some day again Mountain bike those trails!

I listen to a variety of music - it does help with the pace. If a song comes into rotation that doesn't work for my pace, I just go to the next!

I've got an eclectic Playlist for my treadmill time... everything from classic rock to movie soundtracks. I just pick what works for the pace I need. (Warm up, steady, run, steady, cool down.) It helps me focus on something other than the number of calories burned or distance walked. Right now I can do 1.5 miles in 40 mins, new personal best. Happy Walking!

I’m with Murph..weights or something that needs concentration I usually don’t listen to anything...however repetitious activity (walking, biking, etc) especially on a trainer I like something to keep my mind busy...I’ll listen to a podcast I enjoy or music with a good beat

I’ve got eclectic taste so it could be anything. Even a few breathing exercises that sometimes I slow down to do, bit most times I skip through. 🤷🏻‍♀️So I boogie down the street to whatever my heart desires at the time. 😁

I like alternative/ Indy but when I’m in the gym I listen to rap. It pumps me up & I feel like a bad ass 😝

I put Pandora on my phone with different genres. Nothing like Donna Summer to walk and wiggle to.

Rammstein? My soundtrack is truly eclectic. It is easier to report what I do not like than to list what I do. (Keep Disco and Techno away from me.) Of course Simon and Garfunkel or Mozart don't get the heart rate up. My favorite exercise soundtrack is Mannheim Steamroller.

I have an eclectic mix of metal, classic rock, alternative and punk rock - mostly songs that have a good tempo to pace to while I run...helps me to stay focused on why I am at the gym and get done what I need to do.

I'm thinking it has more to do with an ever-increasingly introverted populous. Folks just don't want to get to know their neighbors anymore - course... I could be way off.

@xappie haha, I am the same way, I listen to a little of everything mostly alternative/Indy and acoustic stuff but when dancing or exercising I like some potty mouth rap to pump me up. I put on a pandora station the other day that had some raps from before I had kids and my kids were shocked and amazed how I knew every single word and they had never heard it before 🤣 we never really play rap unless it’s a clean pop hit “rap” song on the radio.

@from371 I agree, people don’t want to interact. While working at a gym I noticed how many people came in already with earbuds in and just give you a nod, no conversation or greeting at all... 😕 I was once a super bubbly outgoing little lady and sometimes I wanted to say hello but people were always in a hurry or too into themselves. How about the people who wear way too much perfume or cologne to the gym?! 🤦‍♀️ I wanna know what they are thinking... 🤷‍♀️

@mamamc7 that is funny! I charged my phone in my car the other day and Bluetooth started playing my rap workout music from Pandora. I had to quickly turn it down 😜
